Quality Health Care For All

The Job
We have a vacancy for an interested GP to work in our clinic. Rumuneration is above average and the case load is varied, interesting and across the whole spectrum of society.
We are a teaching practice and frequently have medical students and GP registrars. The University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School based in Burnie work closely with us in student education and opportunities. You may qualify for the title of lecturer or senior lecturer on the basis of your involvement here.
We provide 24 hour care in a co-operative arrangement with Smithton District Hospital on a rostered basis. This provides further interest to GP work and excitement at times.
The practice is very efficiently run and there is an egalitarian atmosphere amongst the staff. We have more computers than people and are striving towards a completely paperless environment although this is more difficult to achieve that it sounds! We use Medical Director for our patient notes and Pracsoft for the appointment system and accounts. Learning these systems does not take long.
Associated services
We have a twice daily pathology collection service with urgent results coming back the same day and most others the following day. X-rays are available in Smithton twice a week but if necessary we do emergency x-rays ourselves. Alternatively patients can be directed to the larger radiology practice in Burnie which provides a comprehensive service and is only 1 hour's drive away. There are also physiotherapy services available in town.
Practice structure
We are a practice of associate GP's but you may prefer to work as an employee. It is our usual practice to employ GPs initially and offer them associateship after a few months if agreeable to both parties. Part time work or job-sharing can be negotiated if that suits you better. Locum opportunities are also available and you can have a taste before you commit.
We are a mixed billing practice and the mix is entirely at the individual doctor's discretion. We also have a VMO agreement with the local hospital and all of the doctors have admitting rights there which is a satisfactory arrangement and contributes to the overall package.
Do not hesitate to contact our practice manager Sue Burke by e-mail at and she will provide you with more information. We also welcome site visits from interested parties. Alternatively view our contact page.
